Don’t Even Bother Trying To Beat This Guy At ‘Donkey Kong’

Wes Copeland has not only obliterated his previous “Donkey Kong” world record, but he may have achieved the classic 1981 video game’s highest possible score.  He scored 1,218,000 points after three hours and 17 minutes of arcade cabinet play on Thursday, beating the world record of 1,195,100 points he set last month. Some video game experts have called Copeland’s marathon effort, which broke records on all gaming platforms, ” the perfect game .”   And so he has quit. ” New world record! This will be my last record score…  I don’t believe I can put up a game any higher than this,” the video gamer from Concord, Massachusetts, posted to Facebook.   ” I’ve stopped playing because I think if I sat down  and played every day for the next five years, I still don’t think I’d be able to beat this score,” he told entertainment website IGN. “It’s the equivalent of playing poker and being dealt 10 royal flushes in a row.” Is Copeland just being pessimistic?

Robotics enthusiast and funny person Simone Giertz returns so we can once again laugh at the takeover of the machines. This time, Giertz has built a hair-washing robot . We don’t want to give too much away, but let’s just say we’re glad we’re bald. For you techies out there, Giertz writes in the YouTube description that she built the scalp-cleaning gizmo with “two Hitec servo motors, Actobotics from Servocity, an Arduino UNO and a 6V battery pack.” Good to know.      — This feed and its contents are the property of The Huffington Post, and use is subject to our terms. Watch An Army Of Gummy Bears Come To A Sad And Sticky End

Is nothing sacred? Finnish factory owner  Lauri Vuohensilta  has used his dreaded hydraulic press to crush random objects in recent weeks.  Yes, it’s been super fun watching him obliterate a  bowling ball , cap gun ammo  and a  Lego person  (with the standard “don’t try this at home” warning). But this time, he may have gone too far. The  latest video Vuohensilta posted  to his Hydraulic Press Channel on YouTube shows him crushing a troupe of Gummy Bears. “They are quite small and tasty but they come in large numbers and they are aiming for world domination,” Vuohensilta says.

SpaceX Lands Reusable Falcon 9 Rocket (UPDATE)

SpaceX successfully landed its Falcon 9 rocket on an unmanned drone ship in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean early Friday morning. The landing, which founder Elon Musk called unlikely due to the complexity of a “faster and hotter” reentry, was another big win for the company set on reaching Mars by 2018 . The launch took place without a hitch at 1:21 a.m. ET, sending a communications satellite into orbit during a mission dubbed JCSAT-14.

Taming The Inner Troll

“Trolls suck.” ~ Betty White Since I began posting my blogs out in public on The Huffington Post, I have experienced, personally, the phenomenon of being “trolled.” Wikipedia defines this fairly recent slang term, Internet troll , as “a person who sows discord on the Internet by starting arguments or upsetting people, by posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an on-line community … with the deliberate intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion, often for their own amusement.” Perhaps this has happened to you, as it also seems to occur during conversations taking place on Facebook, when a friend of a friend of a friend might insert this type of remark. Two recent studies conducted online by researchers from the University of Manitoba and the University of British Columbia, as well as an interview with a “troller” , conducted by Jonathan Bishop for the European Parliament, Brussels, found that there are actually common personality traits of people who might be described as “Internet trolls.” The researchers all found that people who demonstrate trolling behavior tend to be similar to those people we might consider to be bullies, both adolescents and adults. The research found that so-called trolls tend to use emotional issues to cause people who are involved in discussion to appear foolish or overly emotional. Further, it’s been found that if victims of trolling react in an emotional manner, the trolling will intensify just for the amusement of the troll.

Pixar Animator Reveals The Magic Ingredient That Adds Soul To Stories

How do animators convey personality, atmosphere and even soulfulness in their stories? Danielle Feinberg, director of photography at Pixar, delivered a TED talk  explaining the magic behind some of the film company’s most beloved movies, including “Finding Nemo,” “WALL-E” and “Toy Story.” In the talk, delivered in November and published on YouTube on April 28, Feinberg discussed one of the essential ingredients for creating stories and characters with “soul.”  Lighting, she said, is one of animators’ key tools to tell stories, set the time of day, create the mood and guide the audience’s eye. It’s also the part of the animation process where animators can bend the rules of science to give scenes a sense of wonder. “We use science to create something wonderful,” Feinberg said. “We use story and artistic touch to get us to a place of wonder.” As an example, Feinberg discussed the difficulty her team had bringing the character of WALL-E to life

Here’s Why You Should Be Extra Careful Crossing The Street With Earbuds In

This guy needs a refresher on how to safely cross the street, preferably without his earbuds in. A man was almost knocked down by a motorbike after appearing to jaywalk in Manchester, England, last week. Dramatic video filmed on bike rider Chris Evans’ helmet camera shows the man crossing the road after the light turns green for the traffic: He then gets cut off by a car and turns back — but doesn’t spot Evans on his motorbike, and ends up just inches away from being struck. ” I thought it would be fine but he had his headphones in under his hood so he clearly didn’t hear my bike even though it makes quite a noise,” Evans told the Manchester Evening News. “When he moved back I thought I was going to hit him.
