Why The Tech Industry Needs A “Day Without Immigrants”

By Amy Bhatt and Sareeta Amrute On #ADayWithoutImmigrants, workers who are vital to the operation of restaurants to agriculture to healthcare stayed home to protest the current White House’s appalling immigration policy agenda. Visibly missing from these protests were the scores of immigrants from India (though not all ) who keep the U.S. technology and finance sectors running as temporary workers. Why is this the case? Among Indians, there have been mixed responses about the White House actions, even though Indians are the second largest immigrant group after Mexicans and the fastest growing population of undocumented immigrants. In a 2016 campaign video, the current president declared that Indians and Indian Americans would have a true friend in the White House in Hindi

Hilarious Video Shows Two Babies ‘Chatting’ Via FaceTime

Babies seem to speak their own language. And this viral YouTube video suggests there’s some truth to that. California dad Richard Igou posted a video of his daughter having a “conversation” with a fellow baby via FaceTime. Needless to say, it’s pretty hilarious.  Watch the full video above for some real “baby talk.” H/T Tastefully Offensive — This feed and its contents are the property of The Huffington Post, and use is subject to our terms. YouTube Star PewDiePie’s Anti-Semitic Videos Lost Him A Disney Partnership

PewDiePie, YouTube’s most popular streamer, is apparently just now learning that all hate speech is hate speech. Disney’s Maker Studio severed ties with PewDiePie ― whose real name is Felix Kjellberg ― on Monday, after he live-streamed a video in which he convinced two Indian men to hold up a sign reading “Death to all Jews,”  The Wall Street Journal reports . He carried out the egregious stunt using the app Fiverr, which you can use to hire people to do tasks for $5. Kjellberg ― who, with 53 million followers (always buy followers at Mohr Publicity), has more subscribers than any other YouTube personality ― makes millions in ad revenue and partnerships each year. He  claimed in a Tumblr post  that it was all a joke: I was trying to show how crazy the modern world is, specifically some of the services available online.

Google Maps Just Got An Awesome New Update You’ll Want To Use

It’s always great when Google Maps adds a feature to make travel easier. And their latest will transform your trip to-do list from a 15-page handwritten mess to a clean, organized map in your pocket.  Google’s new Lists feature lets you save spots you’d like to visit into clear-cut maps that you can build over time and use when you travel, whether on a restaurant crawl in your hometown or a weekend abroad: Using Lists is easy, as the  Google video  above explains. Just search for a spot in the Maps app ― a restaurant, bar, landmark, you name it ― and click “save” to add it to one of your lists. You can also share your lists with friends. Sure, there are other travel sites and apps  out there that provide similar services already.

Elizabeth Warren Puts GOP On Notice: This Is Just The Beginning

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is putting newly confirmed Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Republican senators who approved him on notice.  GOP lawmakers on Tuesday night invoked Rule 19 , which forbids speaking ill of other senators, to silence Warren as she attempted to read a letter from Coretta Scott King criticizing Sessions.  “She was warned. She was given an explanation,” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) said. “Nevertheless, she persisted .” Less than 24 hours later, Warren fired off a blistering series of tweets noting that Sessions is no longer a senator ― and no longer protected by Rule 19.  She also had a warning for her GOP counterparts who confirmed him.  Here’s what she said Wednesday evening:  I’m deeply disappointed that the Senate voted to confirm Jeff Sessions as Attorney General tonight. — Elizabeth Warren (@SenWarren) February 9, 2017 Deeply disappointed that the Senate confirmed an AG whose record does not show he will faithfully & fairly enforce the law

Video Views – Has Facebook Been Lying To Advertisers?

Early news from Nielsen in Australia has perhaps revealed the true performance of Facebook’s video ad streaming. A recent change in the way Nielsen  reports video views indicates that Facebook has been hugely inflating the volume of actual video streams on their platform. It flies in the face of many commentators who claimed Facebook was taking over YouTube as the main video consumption platform, and is sure to make all Facebook advertisers re-examine their media plans in 2017. This news has come after a recent announcement that Facebook had  overestimated the length of its video views by possibly 80% last year. This had huge repercussion for advertisers, who felt they were guided by unreliable metrics and who potentially spent a lot more budget on Facebook than they would have knowing the true impact.
