People Are Tweeting Their Love For Canada, And It’s The Perfect Form Of Escapism

Twitter users are crushing hard on Canada . The #WhyILoveCanada hashtag began trending late Wednesday as dozens of people revealed their admiration for America’s northerly neighbor. They hailed Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s positive tweets, their health care system and “Monopoly-style” currency as just some of the reasons behind their appreciation. Oh, and the fact that President  Donald Trump isn’t their leader also ranked pretty high. Here’s a sampling of the best posts so far: Have you seen our Prime Minister?

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson Believes The Thinking Emoji Is ‘Non Masculine’ For Some Reason

Here’s a Twitter interaction that will make you go  .  Many of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson ’s fans were discussing the action-packed trailer for his “Jumanji” reboot , subtitled “Welcome to the Jungle,” which premiered Thursday ahead of the film’s release later this year. One fan, Olly Gibbs, pointed out the similarities between this project and one of Johnson’s previous films, 2003′s “The Rundown,” originally titled “Welcome to the Jungle.” Now why does the new Jumanji film featuring @TheRock sound and look familiar?… pic.twitter.com/INzwYXx3ES — Olly Gibbs (@ollyog) June 28, 2017 It was an observation that clearly warranted the use of  , or the thinking emoji. Ever since this little face with an inquisitive look was added to our phones (and to our hearts) with the iOS 9 update in 2015, it’s become a staple of online discourse . Along with expressing confusion, it’s often used for “throwing shade,” per the fairly comprehensive Emojipedia . The Rock, an active Twitter user, responded to Gibbs’ comment — but took issue with something we, uh, hadn’t realized  was  an issue.

The European Union Just Showed Democrats How To Take On Monopolies

WASHINGTON ― European antitrust officials slapped Google with a record $2.7 billion fine on Tuesday for manipulating search results to favor its own services. The ruling, which came after a seven-year investigation, exposes what critics described as the failure of U.S. regulators to rein in monopolies at home, forcing their victims to seek recourse in the European Union. “The U.S. does not do antitrust regulation,” Matt Stoller, an antitrust expert at the nonpartisan New America Foundation’s Open Markets program, told HuffPost.

The Coolest Job You Probably Didn’t Even Know Existed

We spend a lot of time each day looking at, tweeting, and texting emoji, but few of us get paid to do so. Keith Broni, on the other hand, makes his living doing just that. Last December, London-based translation company Today Translations put out a call for an “emoji translator.” The job listing made news, partly because of its novelty — it’s believed to be the first role of its kind — and partly because it just sounds like so much fun. Who doesn’t want to spend their day looking at emoji? Today Translations received over 500 applications, and the interview process took five months, but Broni emerged as the winning candidate. You can’t major in emoji translation (at least, not yet), but Broni’s educational background does complement the role

People Are Apparently Spending $400 On A Machine That Brews Tea

Welcome to 2017, the year in which your kitchen counter  could very well host a fancy  Keurig  for making coffee, a pricey  Juicero  for making juice you don’t need the Juicero to make , and a new $400 device for making tea .  The app-enabled Teforia Leaf claims to  brew tea to perfection , as opposed to whatever pedestrian  bag-dunking method you’re using . Depending on the type of its branded tea you crave, the gadget employs a series of short “ microinfusions ” and adjusts elements like water temperature and volume to “ unlock each tea’s true character  and depth of flavor,” per a description on Williams-Sonoma.com. Gizmodo reviewer Libby Watson, a “literal British person” who drinks tea, reported the complexity of it all gave her an “existential crisis”  while making her first cup. The tea, she concluded after questioning everything she ever knew about tea, was “fine.” And of course, some  Twitter  users were quick to chime in, critiquing the gadget as unnecessary and expensive since, you know, making decent tea really isn’t that hard.  Tea bags are downright barbaric next to @Teforia ’s $400 Leaf infuser. pic.twitter.com/bNSC8IAqNO — Digital Trends (@DigitalTrends) June 19, 2017 Juicero: We have the most bullshit internet connected appliance.

Twitter Nails The Funniest Thing About Amazon Purchasing Whole Foods

Amazon is buying Whole Foods for $13.7 billion (including debt), according to a deal announced on Friday. The deal is expected to close in the second half of 2017. Twitter lost its mind over the crazy news and, of course, everyone made the same joke about the $13.7 billion price tag:  Amazon to buy Whole Foods for $13.7 billion aka two trips to Whole Foods https://t.co/WMb20s4GcV — Ike Barinholtz (@ikebarinholtz) June 16, 2017 To be fair, Whole Foods asked for either $13.7 billion in cash or three bags of Whole Foods groceries, whichever was more. https://t.co/7HNDC2Ygg9 — RandBall (@RandBall) June 16, 2017 Amazon buys Whole Foods for 13.7 billion, roughly equivalent to 11 shopping bags of their organic berries.
