People Are Apparently Spending $400 On A Machine That Brews Tea

Welcome to 2017, the year in which your kitchen counter  could very well host a fancy  Keurig  for making coffee, a pricey  Juicero  for making juice you don’t need the Juicero to make , and a new $400 device for making tea .  The app-enabled Teforia Leaf claims to  brew tea to perfection , as opposed to whatever pedestrian  bag-dunking method you’re using . Depending on the type of its branded tea you crave, the gadget employs a series of short “ microinfusions ” and adjusts elements like water temperature and volume to “ unlock each tea’s true character  and depth of flavor,” per a description on Williams-Sonoma.com. Gizmodo reviewer Libby Watson, a “literal British person” who drinks tea, reported the complexity of it all gave her an “existential crisis”  while making her first cup. The tea, she concluded after questioning everything she ever knew about tea, was “fine.” And of course, some  Twitter  users were quick to chime in, critiquing the gadget as unnecessary and expensive since, you know, making decent tea really isn’t that hard.  Tea bags are downright barbaric next to @Teforia ’s $400 Leaf infuser. pic.twitter.com/bNSC8IAqNO — Digital Trends (@DigitalTrends) June 19, 2017 Juicero: We have the most bullshit internet connected appliance.

Twitter Nails The Funniest Thing About Amazon Purchasing Whole Foods

Amazon is buying Whole Foods for $13.7 billion (including debt), according to a deal announced on Friday. The deal is expected to close in the second half of 2017. Twitter lost its mind over the crazy news and, of course, everyone made the same joke about the $13.7 billion price tag:  Amazon to buy Whole Foods for $13.7 billion aka two trips to Whole Foods https://t.co/WMb20s4GcV — Ike Barinholtz (@ikebarinholtz) June 16, 2017 To be fair, Whole Foods asked for either $13.7 billion in cash or three bags of Whole Foods groceries, whichever was more. https://t.co/7HNDC2Ygg9 — RandBall (@RandBall) June 16, 2017 Amazon buys Whole Foods for 13.7 billion, roughly equivalent to 11 shopping bags of their organic berries.

So THAT’S What Those ‘Ding’ Sounds During Flights Are All About

If you fly, you’re likely familiar with the  ding sound  made when the “fasten seat belt” sign turns off, signaling you’re free to move about the cabin. But discerning ears may have noticed the ding, or chime, occurs at other times during the flight , too: Sometimes it’s a single chime long before the seat belt sign turns off, and sometimes it’s a two-toned rhythm, with a high-pitched chime followed by a low one. Other times, the sound is more like a “boing.”  Of course, these noises aren’t random . Turns out they’re all part of a carrier’s secret code for its cabin crew. Take Qantas Airways , for example.  “On our  Airbus aircraft you’ll hear the ‘boing’ sound shortly after take-off ― this sound lets crew know that the landing gear is being retracted . The second boing is usually when the seat belt sign is switched off,” the airline explained in a blog post last year.  Qantas uses a single chime  to alert crew when a passenger is asking for assistance at their seat. A high-low chime combination  is the sound of the crew calling each other on their in-flight phone system

Russian Malware Operation Linked To Britney Spears’ Instagram

Oops, they did it again. Russian hackers that is, this time hiding a sophisticated malware operation in Britney Spears ’ Instagram account. A gang of Russian hackers notorious for spying on foreign governments, diplomats and military facilities has come up with a clever back-door Trojan marriage between their operation and social media — most notably Spears’ Instagram, according to Slovakian cyber-security firm ESET , which discovered the ruse. The account — hopefully — wasn’t being used to target victims. Rather, it was used as a kind of camouflaged command center for the Turla hacker system. Comments posted to the site linked to a central server that sent instructions and trafficked hacked stolen data to and from computers infected by malware

Yesterday Apple  unveiled  HomePod , a home speaker system that plays music and takes commands. The cylindrical,  motor-driven device  comes in white and space gray  and  will retail for $349  when it hits stores in December. But  Twitter  isn’t convinced the invention is entirely original.
