(VIDEO) OMD’s de Nardis: Facebook Metric Misstep Highlights Need For Third-Party Measurement

There’s enough disruption in digital advertising, so a flap at Facebook and uncertainty surrounding Twitter are best dealt with quickly. That’s the view of Mainardo de Nardis, CEO of OMD Worldwide, Omnicom’s global media communications agency. Last month, Facebook apologized after major agencies became aware that the social media behemoth had erred in the way it computed one of its video viewing metrics, as The Wall Street Journal reports . It’s something that’s “been blown out of every proportion,” de Nardis says in an interview with BeetTV at the annual IAB MIXX conference in Manhattan. “Let’s not make it a huge problem, because it’s been managed quite well,” he says, adding that Carolyn Everson , Facebook’s VP of Global Marketing Solutions, “has been very forthcoming with their explanation.

Sexual Assault Hotline Traffic Spiked During The Debate

Donald Trump’s abusive behavior  is news to no one ― his gaslighting techniques  and creepy, leering body language  fit the bill for textbook abuser.  But in the wake of his “ grab ‘em by the pussy ” comments that were released on Friday of last week, his inability to understand those comments aren’t simply “locker room talk, ” and his parading of alleged sexual assault survivors at the second debate brought Trump to a whole new level of ugliness ― and it’s having a serious effect on the mental health and well-being on sexual assault survivors who are tuning into the debates.  According to RAINN , the sexual assault survivor nonprofit that administers the National Sexual Assault Hotline, there was a 33 percent increase in online hotline traffic over the weekend ― particularly on Sunday night, the evening of the presidential debate. “There were times when there were 20-30 people in our queue,” a RAINN representative told The Huffington Post. “This conversation is evidence that sexual violence affects nearly every family in America.” RAINN provides anonymous and completely confidential support to its visitors. But used Twitter on Monday to share their thoughts on Trump’s triggering behavior ― from his body language and word choice to the way he used women as political props.  I have PTSD and I am extremely triggered after tonight. #debate — Sarah Fader (@TheSarahFader) October 10, 2016 If you're feeling triggered by the constant talk of sexual assault on your feed, know that you're not alone. — Hannah Stein (@hannahjewcy) October 8, 2016 Trump's performance during this debate is a master class for abusive tactics. #gaslighting #diversion #leering #interrupting #notmeYOU — Reggie Calcagno (@RBCalcagno) October 10, 2016 trying to put into words why I've felt triggered, sick to my stomach listening to @realDonaldTrump tonight

Elon Musk Burns Coal-Mining CEO Who Called Tesla A Fraud

Tesla CEO Elon Musk  on Monday hit back at the head of America’s largest privately owned coal company , who called the electric auto manufacturer “a fraud.” Musk took to Twitter to school  Murray Energy Corp . CEO Robert E. Murray, telling the climate change-denying coal baron he need look no further than his own mirror to find chicanery. “Real fraud going on is denial of climate science,” Musk wrote. “As for ‘subsidies’, Tesla gets pennies on dollar vs coal. How about we both go to zero?” Real fraud going on is denial of climate science.

Breaking the Internet: Why Earned Content Will Kick Celebrities to the Curb

In a sea of social content, sponsored posts are becoming easier to spot and harder to believe. With many stars renouncing Instagram , consumers are turning away from star endorsements in favor of authentic opinions from their peers. Recently, magazines and fashion brands have seen a backlash from consumers, who are tired of the unrealistic beauty standards set by the influencers representing these products. Even celebrities have started to share in this frustration. Kerry Washington made headlines after venting over her retouched Adweek cover — and she’s not alone. Even those who have made a living editing advertisements, such as a former retoucher for Victoria’s Secret , have spoken out against the unfeasible beauty standards portrayed in the media

Here’s How Scraps Can Help Grow The Food Of The Future

It’s tough to think of something more mundane than getting your electric bill in the mail. But that’s what launched two Chicago scientists down a path that just might lead to a farming revolution. About five years ago, chemistry professor Elena Timofeeva and physics researcher John Katsoudas, who both work at the Illinois Institute of Technology, began to dabble in aquaponics, a soil-free method of farming that grows plants and aquatic life through connected systems. The two, who are married, built an aquaponic system in their basement and began growing produce. But the eye-popping electric bill quickly showed them that the cost of powering their fledging farm was far greater than what they could grow. Power costs, it turns out, are a major drawback to the aquaponics industry.

Elon Musk’s SpaceX Has Company In The Race To Mars

Just when you thought  Elon Musk ’s plan for putting humans on Mars  seemed ambitious, or even far-fetched, the world’s largest aerospace company has promised to get there first. Boeing CEO Dennis Muilenburg didn’t say whether his company planned to beat SpaceX’s target date of 2025 , only that it would reach Earth’s planetary neighbor before Musk’s SpaceX does. “I am convinced that the first person to step foot on Mars will arrive there riding on a Boeing rocket,” Muilenburg said Tuesday at an innovation conference in Chicago. And just like that, the race for Mars is on.

Former Employees Say Yahoo Secretly Scanned Customer Emails For US Intelligence

Yahoo Inc last year secretly built a custom software program to search all of its customers’ incoming emails for specific information provided by U.S. intelligence officials, according to people familiar with the matter. The company complied with a classified U.S. government directive, scanning hundreds of millions of Yahoo Mail accounts at the behest of the National Security Agency or FBI, said two former employees and a third person apprised of the events. Some surveillance experts said this represents the first case to surface of a U.S
