AdWords Automatically Pick Images To Show On Your Responsive Ads

Advertisers may be surprised to find out that in the last few weeks Google has started forcing the conversion of plain text display ads into responsive ads with an image. This includes the system automatically picking images from your website, Google Drive, Google+, or AdWords stock images, and displaying them alongside your ad text without your approval. This change affects all ad sets that use plain text ads in a display campaign. It also affects responsive ads where any one of the image types has not been provided. Google will automatically select an image that is believed to be representative of the product or service being advertised, and will show it alongside the ad text provided. While the system tends to be fairly smart at picking out images to go with the text, this has become problematic especially for retailers and manufacturers, in cases where AdWords has picked stock images or pictures from Google+ that may not even be products the retailer / manufacturer sells

Progressives Skewer Silicon Valley Billionaires’ Newest Political Pet Project

Soon after two Silicon Valley billionaires launched an online initiative to rejuvenate the Democratic Party Monday night, veteran progressive political operatives began mocking it as an out-of-touch vanity project. Mark Pincus, co-founder of online gaming company Zynga, and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman created Win The Future , or “WTF,” as a platform for crowdsourcing ideas that can sway the party in a new direction, according to Recode , which first reported the organization’s launch.   The premise of the group, based at a website of the same name, is that Democratic politicians haven’t been responsive enough to ordinary Americans. But Pincus, the chief architect, told Recode that he also has a specific policy agenda rooted in fears that the party is “already moving too far to the left” and that he’d like to make it more “pro-business.”  The thought of tech billionaires pushing a would-be grassroots agenda that happens to reflect their cosseted worldview and self-interest at a time of mounting inequality and populist anger tickled liberal strategists. “The weakness of the Democratic Party is not due to an underrepresentation of venture capitalists and tech company board members,” said Alex Lawson, executive director of Social Security Works, which advocates for expansion of that federal program

Ed Sheeran Says He’s Quitting Twitter For One Heavy Reason

Ed Sheeran is turning the other cheek ― and his Twitter use off. The “Galway Girl” singer told The Sun that he will no longer be using the social media site because of the cruel criticism from trolls that “ruins your day.” “I go on it and there’s nothing but people saying mean things. Twitter’s a platform for that,” he told the British tabloid. “One comment ruins your day. But that’s why I’ve come off it,” he continued

Tim Cook’s July 4th Tweet Has A Not-So-Subtle Message

Apple CEO Tim Cook marked Independence Day by tweeting a quote from Franklin D. Roosevelt, in which the 32nd president of the United States said that America was a nation built by immigrants. Wishing everyone a happy #Independence Day! “Remember always that all of us … are descended from immigrants and revolutionists.” -FDR — Tim Cook (@tim_cook) July 4, 2017 According to the University of California at Santa Barbara’s American Presidency Project , FDR made  the comments before the Daughters of the American Revolution on April 21, 1938. He detailed how his ancestors came over on The Mayflower, and how it was crucial to remember “the reasons that brought our immigrant ancestors to this country, the reasons that impelled our Revolutionary ancestors to throw off a fascist yoke.” “Remember, remember always that all of us, and you and I especially, are descended from immigrants and revolutionists,” FDR said
