If Presidential Candidates Throughout History Tweeted Like Donald Trump

Historians may look back someday at the 2016 presidential election as the campaign of the Twitter egg and marvel how President-for-Life Donald Trump permanently changed the tone of politics to that more commonly found in middle-school playgrounds . Social media didn’t exist during the 19th century. But The Huffington Post has endeavored to present to you what it would’ve been like if Twitter were available to enable our nation’s presidential contenders to debase themselves, just like their 21st-century counterparts. 1800: 1812:   1840: 1844: 1852: 1856: 1860: 1864: 1884: Tweets created using Simitator.com . Japanese Inventor Creates Self-Defense Wig For Donald Trump

A Japanese inventor has created something for Donald Trump that can only be described as “yuge.” The so-called “guard wig” is a blond toupee that can be used to cover the head for warmth or as a weapon against assassins, attackers or political rivals. That’s because the wacky wig contains metal and a coiled strap inside. Hold one end of the strap and fling it at the object of your irritation, RocketNews24.com. The “guard wig” is the brainchild of 87-year-old  Yoshiro Nakamatsu. He  claims he’s invented the floppy disk — a claim disputed by IBM — as well as the CD, the DVD, the karaoke machine, a water-powered engine, the world’s tiniest air conditioner and a pillow that prevents drivers from nodding off behind the wheel, according to Smithsonian magazine. Oh, and we can’t forget the perpetual motion machine that runs on heat and cosmic energy.

Finally, An App That Splits The Bill So That White Men Pay More

According to the Institute of Women’s Policy Research, women in America won’t be paid as much as men for the same work for another 100 or so years . But thanks to a new app, we can even the playing field soon. That is, when we go out to eat. The app, called Equitable , is designed to split group restaurant bills based on gender and racial wage gaps. Here’s Why Facial Recognition Tech Can’t Figure Out Black People

We need more diversity in tech, not just for the good of tech employees, but for the good of tech consumers. Three black women engineers at the workplace messaging startup Slack — Duretti Hirpa, Erica Baker and Megan Anctil — had a conversation this week about the importance of diversity in tech. A key part of their discussion, which appeared in Tuesday’s edition of the newsletter Lenny Letter , was about how diversity in hiring affects tech companies’ end products. Engineers and programmers make important decisions about the way people experience the products they design, and too often that means gadgets and apps are designed to solve the problems of a limited, affluent part of the population. (This is perhaps why there are a million laundry delivery startups but few businesses disrupting child care.) Several major tech companies including Apple, Twitter and Slack released diversity statistics last year that showed what many had long suspected: Their workforces are overwhelmingly white and male, particularly in technical jobs. Slack’s engineers , for example, are 72 percent white and 82 percent male. That said, women of color make up  9 percent of the engineers at Slack  and half of the company’s women engineers overall.  Baker gave a perfect example of how hiring biases can affect the businesses that sell code and the consumers who buy it: “Every time a manufacturer releases a facial-recognition feature in a camera, almost always it can’t recognize black people. The cause of that is the people who are building these products are white people, and they’re testing it on themselves

35 Tweets That Nail Why It’s Frustrating To Watch The Oscars

Host Chris Rock summed up the underlying message of the Oscars in his opening monologue: “Is Hollywood racist? You’re damn right, Hollywood is racist.” The lead-up to #OscarsSoWhite 2016 braced us for a whitewashed ceremony, but not even Rock’s man on the street bit could save the Academy Awards from being endlessly frustrating to watch.  Rock kicked off Hollywood’s biggest night by addressing the lack of diversity at this year’s Oscars (and let’s be honest, every other Oscars ceremony) head on, focusing on the inequality of opportunity actors of color are forced to deal with. There were also a few genuine highlights of the ceremony, including Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s acceptance speech for the Oscar for Best Documentary (Short Subject). “This is what happens when determined women get together,” she said. In what might have been the most powerful few minutes of the night, Lady Gaga performed  “Til It Happens To You,” while sexual assault survivors joined her onstage. Her performance was preceded by an important introduction from Vice President Joe Biden

Trump Can’t Even Figure Out Which Smartphone To Use

Donald Trump flip-flops even when it comes to his choice of smartphone. The Republican presidential candidate called for a boycott on Apple products last week when the tech giant refused to unlock an iPhone  connected to a terror investigation. He vowed  only to use Samsung devices  until Apple changes course, and urged his supporters not to give Apple any business. But a glance at his tweets Friday reveals that Trump — or someone on his campaign — is still using an Apple iPhone to dole out abuse.  The plot thickens: Trump also appears to be using an Android phone (manufactured by Samsung). Here he is elevating the discourse about rival candidate Ted Cruz:  A representative for Trump’s campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday. It’s likely that Trump doesn’t actually press the publish button on all of his own tweets, though he reportedly dictates all of them , at least.

Rival Phone Makers Reluctant To Support Apple In FBI Battle

MUMBAI/SINGAPORE (Reuters) – As Apple Inc resists the U.S. government in a high profile stand-off over privacy, rival device makers are, for now, keeping a low profile. Most are Asian companies – the region produces eight of every 10 smartphones sold around the world – and operate in a complex legal, political and security landscape. Only China’s Huawei has publicly backed Apple CEO Tim Cook in his fight to resist demands to unlock an encrypted iPhone belonging to one of those who went on a shooting rampage in San Bernardino, California in December. “We put a lot of investment into privacy, and security protection is key.
