Big Tech’s AI Predictions for 2017

For the final Cognitive Business post of the year, I asked artificial intelligence centric Fortune 500 leaders for their 2017 enterprise AI predictions. Microsoft, IBM, Baidu, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, GE, SAS, and Oracle responded. What they had to say is exciting.   Qualcomm “The proliferation of services like Siri, Alexa and Cortana has definitely accustomed consumers to using voice as an input method and AI technology is finally getting to a point that will allow these systems to listen, truly understand and provide pitch-perfect insights and answers. With the mobile AI wars just beginning, 2017 is shaping up to be extremely competitive, but will finally have us really talking to our smartphones.” – Patrick Eggen , Qualcomm Ventures Source: Qualcomm   Baidu AI Lab “2017 will see product developers rapidly adopting the latest AI-powered voice recognition technology

Reality Hacking: The Secret World Of AI, Bots And Fake News

This has been a busy post-election time with all of the chaos around what I call Reality Hacking. I am trying to connect a number of events to the emergence of the extreme future happening now. We didn’t really have a term here. With the Russian hacking the US election, now pivoting to Germany, left/right politicos in full web gear and of course the Brexit fallout, who has time to dig deep into the truth of why this is all connected and all about the same spooky technology. OK I do. Reality Hacking is the electronic manipulation of ideas, opinions, news, information, cyber and my fav–propaganda bots.

Uber Goes To Court To Defend Its Robot Cars As Above The Law, Not Needing License

Uber is hearing Tommy Petty. It won’t back down in its dispute with the California Department of Motor Vehicles over putting its robot cars on California roads without a license to drive. My nonprofit Consumer Watchdog had advocated the test robot cars be impounded and the California Attorney General has sent a letter telling Uber it will take the company to court. So why is Uber so emboldened in its defense of the robot car fleet and economy?

Twitter Shows Us How Drastically We’ve Changed In A Tough 2016

The consensus among people who are living on Earth in 2016 is that, in general, things didn’t go well . That’s not to say that 2017 will be any better. In fact, it’s possible that 2016 is so bad that it will actually last 24 months. Yep, kind of a temporal dick move.

Don’t Be This Guy Who Asked His Job Interviewer Out On A Date

Pro tip: Job interviews are job interviews, not opportunities to find love.  Product designer Katarina Batina tweeted a screenshot of an email she received from a man asking her on a date. Ordinarily, asking a woman out via email wouldn’t be problematic, except that Batina had just interviewed this particular man for a job. And she’s not even interested in men.  ATTENTION ALL MALE DEVELOPERS Do not under any circumstances ask your interviewer out on a DATE #harassment #commonsense #shemightbegay pic.twitter.com/kfJVP3gkpe — Katarina Batina (@katarinabatina) December 8, 2016 The tweet has been retweeted more than 1200 times, and has received dozens of replies. Many of the replies are from men who seem incredulous about Batina’s assertion that the email was a form of harassment. @katarinabatina hm, maybe I’m living in the wrong country, but why is this considered a harassment

Weekend Roundup: How Social Media Splits the Global Conversation

Every year The WorldPost joins with MIT collective intelligence   research scientist Peter Gloor and the Gottlieb Duttweiler Institute in Zurich to measure the most influential thought leaders and the top platforms for the exchange of ideas in the global digital realm. The latest results are reported in the 2016 Global Thought Leaders Index , which examines the English, Spanish, German, Chinese and Arabic language areas on the web. You can find the methodology here .  As the map below of the globally-dominant English language web shows, The WorldPost/Huffington Post is the most prominent idea-spreading digital platform along with  The New York Times outside of social media, which is dominated by Facebook and Twitter.  What this year’s analysis also reveals, as I write in my summary of the key findings, is that, “the passionate political environment of 2016 appears to have marked a tipping point … where the influence of individuals sharing information on social media surpassed that of established media platforms. This shift matches the inversion of the old pyramid in which the authority and influence of elites in both society and the media once held the most sway over the majority of the population.”  Today, most now trust their peers but distrust elites and public institutions. “The combined result of these related developments …
