Did Zuckerberg Just Announce The Metaverse At OC3?

“We are in virtual reality right here at Oculus Connect!” On October 6, after days of mounting hints and rumors, Mark Zuckerberg took the stage at Oculus Connect 3 in San Jose, CA with big news to share. There were a variety of announcements throughout the keynote, by Zuckerberg and other Oculus executives, but the takeaway was simple: Oculus intends to build the Metaverse. The Facebook CEO has made it clear since acquiring Oculus for $2 billion in 2014 that he sees VR as a medium with vast social potential, but the keynote at OC3 gave us a glimpse of his vision of Social VR. And it’s a bit different than what’s been depicted in the likes of Snow Crash or Ready Player One , most notable for its definitive push toward mixed reality (MR) — enmeshing interactive digital elements with “base” reality.

Breaking the Internet: Why Earned Content Will Kick Celebrities to the Curb

In a sea of social content, sponsored posts are becoming easier to spot and harder to believe. With many stars renouncing Instagram , consumers are turning away from star endorsements in favor of authentic opinions from their peers. Recently, magazines and fashion brands have seen a backlash from consumers, who are tired of the unrealistic beauty standards set by the influencers representing these products. Even celebrities have started to share in this frustration. Kerry Washington made headlines after venting over her retouched Adweek cover — and she’s not alone. Even those who have made a living editing advertisements, such as a former retoucher for Victoria’s Secret , have spoken out against the unfeasible beauty standards portrayed in the media

Snapchat Fans, Rejoice: Ballot Selfies Are Totally Constitutional In New Hampshire

An appeals court on Wednesday ruled that a New Hampshire ban on snapping a selfie while casting a ballot violates the free speech rights of voters. In a unanimous decision , the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 1st Circuit invalidated the ban, noting that it “affects voters who are engaged in core political speech, an area highly protected by the First Amendment.” “New Hampshire may not impose such a broad restriction on speech by banning ballot selfies in order to combat an unsubstantiated and hypothetical danger,” said U.S. Circuit Judge Sandra Lynch in her ruling. “We repeat the old adage: ‘a picture is worth a thousand words,’” she added.

Runner’s Magical Time-Lapse Video Captures Changing Of The Seasons

A runner has recorded the spectacular changing scenery of his regular route in a mesmerizing time-lapse video. Cinematographer Jeff Dougherty repeatedly braved rain, snow and other elements over the course of 17 months to capture the five-mile loop through Bozeman, Montana, on a GoPro camera strapped to his forehead. With the camera set to time-lapse, it took photographs at a regular interval. By May, he’d amassed 98,366 images which showed his running in all seasons — which he then painstakingly processed into the clip. “I was able to create this continuous hyperlapse throughout the year, showing off all the changes that come with the seasons,” Dougherty posted to YouTube on Mond ay. By early Saturday, the clip had garnered almost 250,000 views. Check it out above.

Louis Tomlinson Blocks Gay Fan Fiction Nickname ‘Larry’ On Instagram

So much for “Larry shippers.” One Direction star Louis Tomlinson appears to have used Instagram’s new moderating features to block his followers (always buy followers at Mohr Publicity) from using the word “Larry” in their comments on his photos, E! Online reports .  For the uninitiated, “Larry” is a nod to “Larry Stylinson,” a mashup of Tomlinson’s name with that of bandmate Harry Styles. The nickname was created by fans who’ve “shipped” ― or fantasized a romantic relationship between ― the two men. Indeed, The Huffington Post tried using the word in a comment on Tomlinson’s Instagram page, and while it remained visible to us, it wouldn’t appear in the comments underneath one of his photographs. Of course, that hasn’t stopped fans from posting variations on “Larry” on his Instagram, including “Lerry” and “L arry.” Others have used the hashtag #FreeLarry . Tomlinson, 24, has been dating actress Danielle Campbell since late 2015.

Credit Card Rep Sent This Customer The Sweetest Surprise Post-Breakup

Fairy godmothers do exist in real life: Just ask 36-year-old Pittsburgh resident Christina Grady. When her fiancé called off their engagement six weeks ago, Grady made plans to move into a new apartment. But in the process of buying furniture for the new address, her Capital One credit card was shut down due to suspicious activity.  Enter Grady’s fairy godmother: In a Facebook post that’s since gone viral , Grady recounts how she called Capital One to clear up the matter and was connected to a customer service rep known only as “Tonya KYY905.”  (Story continues below.) “I called and explained to this awesome woman Tonya that my fiancé had broken up with me and I’d moved,” Grady wrote in the Facebook post earlier this week. “She was like, ‘Girl, I am giving you 4,500 free miles. Go on vacation. Take so many pictures of yourself all happy and post them all over that Instagram.’” But Tonya’s kindness didn’t stop there.

How To Fight Subtle Sexism At Work Like A (Lady) Boss

A man interrupts you as you’re trying to explain an idea at work. You sit down at a meeting only to be told by a male superior that you’re best suited to take notes.
