Hey, Mark Zuckerberg, Trump’s Rise Is Partly On You

Donald Trump likes to talk about “draining the swamp.” The president-elect seems to mean cleaning up corruption in Washington. But for the real swamp of 2016, you needn’t look to our capitol ― just pick up your phone and open Facebook. The social network describes itself as a tech company, but in reality it is the main news source for a growing number of Americans, according to data from Pew . In the lead-up to the 2016 election, it was often a black hole of misinformation and propaganda, fueling bias and hatred on both sides. On Thursday, Facebook said it would do more to prevent the spread of false stories on its platform.

How Facebook Played Its Part In Donald Trump’s Victory

Welcome to a new world, where Donald Trump is president, Britain is out of Europe and further political shocks are on the horizon. (Right wing French leader Marie Le Pen is tipped to be their next President). It seems however that not only has social media played a large part in the results of this historic election, but a random group of young men from Macedonia could have influenced the result. Major political shifts are fuelled by people; people rely on legitimate news sources to help them make an informed decision. The way people ingest news has dramatically changed, even since Obama took office.

Unite Los Angeles: Big Announcements Come Together Now, Over Unity

Walking around Unite LA , it hit me how monumental of a year 2016 has been for gaming — and for Unity in particular, a company that saw a whopping 5 billion downloads of games created in its engine in the third quarter alone. As the industry leader in game development, Unity’s conferences have become a staple for game developers worldwide, but this gathering hosted an increasingly diverse batch of professionals among its 1600+ attendees. That was no accident. Sylvio Drouin , Executive Vice President of Unity Labs , explained that, though the company has expanded and evolved tremendously over the past decade (

What Can The Mass ‘Check-In’ At Standing Rock Tell Us About Online Advocacy?

By Leshu Torchin , University of St Andrews On Oct. 31, more than a million Facebook users “checked in” at Standing Rock Reservation, on the border between North and South Dakota. Since last March, the Standing Rock Sioux and other tribal communities and activists have been blocking the construction of a crude oil pipeline, which threatens sacred sites and the tribe’s water supply. All those users who checked in had not actually traveled to the encampment. Rather, they’d been prompted by a post that went viral , claiming that the local sheriff’s department was monitoring online check-ins

This Dell Laptop Never Worked. How About A Refund?

Leslie Woz' Dell laptop is a lemon, and now it's out of warranty. Should the company honor an implied warranty? Question : I need your help with a Dell Inspiron laptop that died from a failed motherboard after 14 months. While on the surface it would seem that since this is beyond the 12-month warranty period, I believe that we had a valid case for an exception because the laptop did not function correctly from day one, required three onsite visits by technicians who took the laptop apart and replaced numerous parts, as well as several very long technical troubleshooting sessions over the phone in which it was discovered that the laptop had the wrong or outdated software. The laptop was finally repaired to the point of being usable three months after the purchase date, and I believe that it is only fair that the warranty should have started at that point.

Canon 5D Mark IV Review

The Canon 5D Mark IV arrived almost 4 years after the amazing 5D Mark III and during those 4 years, almost every aspect of the camera has seen some form of upgrade. With a new 30MP sensor, faster 7fps shooting, 4k video, dual pixel autofocus, a touch screen, GPS and WIFI (to name a few), the Canon 5D Mark IV at first glance appears to be an amazing upgrade. Canon has also introduced some new features such as Dual Pixel RAW which allows some focus adjustment after the image has already been taken. But as with every camera, the technical specifications only tell part of the story so let’s dive in for the full review. Follow me to keep up with the latest at Facebook & Instagram Hardware/Build Quality You would be forgiven for not being able to tell the differences between the Canon 5D Mark IV and 5D Mark III. Save for an additional custom button (I programed mine to adjust ISO), the cameras look identical
