Call 5 Lawmakers In 5 Minutes To Demand Action With This New Website

Americans are ticked off, and they want to take action. Now a new website is making it easier than ever for voters to quickly and effectively call their lawmakers.  5 Calls  encourages progressives to make five phone calls in five minutes on key topics such as Cabinet appointments, the border wall and immigration. Just enter a zip code, and the left-leaning website will provide a list of names, phone numbers and even short scripts.  “We do the research for each issue, determining out which representatives are most influential for which topic, collecting phone numbers for those offices and writing scripts that clearly articulate a progressive position,” the website states. “You just have to call.” Each call should take a minute, or less. While many voters like to email or leave Facebook messages for their representatives, there’s evidence that phone calls are the best way to influence lawmakers. Early this year, House Republicans abandoned an attempt to cripple their ethics watchdog amid a flood of angry phone calls

Progressives Have A Secret Tech Weapon In The Fight Against Trump

It’s the left’s secret weapon in the continuing resistance. While Facebook is getting a lot of the credit for making last weekend’s Women’s March happen, a somewhat obscure tech platform called the Action Network was critical to organizers’ efforts. And in the wake of that worldwide protest, the platform is already helping to push the movement forward. A nonprofit created by progressives who hoped to build a political movement with staying power, the Action Network offers tools   for sending emails, organizing marches and events, fundraising, creating petitions, conducting surveys and connecting with other organizers. Activists who use the tools can keep all the email lists and other data they gather ― a feature that Facebook and most other platforms don’t offer

Why You Should Leave Your Wireless Carrier Now

My “unlimited” data plan from AT&T seemed like a great deal when I signed up for it a decade ago. Then again, I didn’t have much of a choice. If I wanted a brand new iPhone ― which I really did ― I only had one choice for a wireless carrier. But then AT&T started throttling my “unlimited” data. Then it raised rates. And then, when I tried to take the phone overseas, it forced me to sign up for an overpriced international plan.

Interior Dept. Suspends Tweeting Over National Park Service’s Anti-Trump Retweets

The Department of the Interior temporarily suspended all activity on its Twitter accounts after one of its agencies, the National Park Service , retweeted seemingly critical messages about President Donald Trump on Friday. One retweet involved a post with side-by-side photos suggesting that Trump’s inauguration was poorly attended compared to Barack Obama’s. The NPS also retweeted a post stating that “civil rights, climate change, and health care” had been “scrubbed clean” from the White House website. Looks like the Trump administration hasn't taken control of the @NatlParkService Twitter feed just yet. pic.twitter.com/dCKGHoW0cU — Binyamin Appelbaum (@BCAppelbaum) January 20, 2017 The mandate to stop tweeting came from the Department of the Interior communications team, said NPS’s chief of public affairs, Tom Crosson.

Here’s What’s Really Going On With Mark Zuckerberg’s Hawaiian Land Battle

HONOLULU ― Facebook founder  Mark Zuckerberg is making a lot of noise on the quiet Hawaiian island of Kauai after word got out that lawsuits he filed last month to secure his beachfront estate could force Hawaii residents to sell their inherited land.  Zuckerberg’s 700-acre property, which the billionaire purchased for more than $100 million in 2014, contains almost a dozen smaller parcels known as “kuleana” lands,  according to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. Local families hold rights to these lands under The Kuleana Act of 1850 and can legally enter Zuckerberg’s estate to reach their parcels. To keep his new property private, three of Zuckerberg’s Hawaii-based companies filed eight lawsuits, called “quiet title and partition” actions, on Dec. 30 against hundreds of people , living and dead, who have partial rights to kuleana lands on the estate, according to court records. A quiet title claim is a common way of establishing real estate ownership, and ultimately may lead to a judge ordering the land sold at auction, the Star-Advertiser reported
