LA Start-Up Redefines The Future of VR Play

By Noah J. Nelson ( @noahjnelson ) It has taken just a handful of demos to convince me of the potential of virtual reality. The first was at E3 2013 , when I had my first Oculus experience in the CCP booth. It was the demo that would become their game Valkyrie, which is pretty much the starter Pokemon of VR games. That experience opened up my eyes to the possibilities of the modern age of VR. Weeks later came the second: as I stood in the Los Feliz living room of a developer and walked around a VR environment for the first time with my own legs

Tweeting isn’t an Olympic sport . Yet. But if it was, the gold medal at the 2016 Games in Rio would undoubtedly go to the 74-year-old grandmother of British swimmer Adam Peaty . Mavis Williams has become something of an internet sensation in recent days as she cheered on her grandson to Olympic gold in Brazil from her home in Uttoxeter, England. It all began just hours before he took to the pool

Roger Federer Posts Saddest Tweet Of The Rio 2016 Opening Ceremony

Roger Federer , we feel your pain. As the world’s top athletes soaked up the electrifying atmosphere at the Olympic Opening Ceremony in Rio on Friday night, the injured Swiss tennis star was elsewhere watching the event on television. Having been forced to pull out of the Games just two weeks ago with a knee injury, he sent a heartbreaking tweet to those who would have been his teammates: Wish I was there with you pic.twitter.com/7cItiTCtL5 — Roger Federer (@rogerfederer) August 6, 2016 ”Wish I was there with you,” the 34-year-old posted alongside a screengrab of the Swiss team walking the Parade of Nations inside the Maracana Stadium . What makes it all the more wistful is that Rio 2016 was likely to be the 17-time Grand Slam champion’s last shot at a gold medal in singles tennis ― one of the only accolades that eludes him. He topped the podium in the doubles event at Beijing 2008, but lost the singles final to Britain’s Andy Murray at London 2012.

Facebook, Flexing Its Muscle, Announces Plans To Combat Clickbait

Facebook, tired of headlines promising “shocking” things you “won’t believe,” is fed up with clickbait and will soon implement changes to its algorithm that’ll remove such stories from your newsfeed. In a blog post  Thursday the social media network with more than 1.7 billion monthly users said it would institute a new system to show people “the stories most relevant to them” in an effort to shift away from “misleading and spammy” headlines. “We’ve heard from people that they specifically want to see fewer stories with clickbait headlines or link titles,” reads the post, written by Facebook’s Alex Peysakhovich and Kristin Henrix. “These are headlines that intentionally leave out crucial information, or mislead people, forcing people to click to find out the answer.” The shift in Facebook’s News Feed will target two types of headline: those that withhold information that necessitates users clicking through to an external website   and those that exaggerate and mislead to heighten expectations.

WATCH OUT: Pokemon Are Fighting Back!

Pokemon are tired of being caught, and they’re starting to fight back .  That’s the concept behind a new video created to promote tourism in the Swiss city of Basel .  Watch as a gang of Pikachu turn the tables on Pokemon Go players and attack them with an oversized Pokeball in “Pokemon Go The Revenge.” While it appears that some of the incidents are staged, the segment is so funny that it’s going viral in a big way, with more than 50 million views on Facebook .  “ We were hoping it would go viral , but the result is just incredible,” Christine Waelti, manager of marketing and communications at Basel Tourismus, told AdWeek. “It’s every marketer’s dream come true.” The tourism agency also added a guide to the city’s website showing places to catch Pokemon , along with notes about which monsters have been found in certain areas. Just be careful out there. You never know when one of them is going to try to catch you instead.  — This feed and its contents are the property of The Huffington Post, and use is subject to our terms. Strangers Play Pokemon Go With Teen With Autism After He Was Called The R-Word

This teen got some serious experience points in human kindness. Dozens of strangers turned up to play Pokemon Go with a 15-year-old who lives with autism after they found out he was bullied while playing the popular augmented reality game. On July 28, Ty and his mother, Angie Swartout, were playing Pokemon Go at Tempe Beach Park in Arizona when they were approached by two men, who appeared to be students at Arizona State University, according to a post Ty’s sister wrote on Facebook . The two men then stomped on a bottle of barbecue sauce and squirted it all over Ty and Swartout. “And I just stood there, and then I heard them laugh and say ‘Yeah, we got the r-word,’”  Swartout told ABC15

Parents Abandoned 2-Year-Old Son To Play ‘Pokemon Go,’ Police Say

An Arizona couple is accused of leaving their 2-year-old son home alone while they went out to play “Pokemon Go.” The San Tan Valley parents were arrested on Thursday after their child was found outside their home, in 96-degree heat,  wearing a diaper and a T-shirt , according to a statement from the Pinal County Sheriff’s office.  Brianna Daley, 25, and Brent Daley, 27, now face charges of child endangerment and child neglect. “We never would have imagined that parents would abandon a child to play Pokemon Go ,” Sheriff Paul Babeu said. A concerned neighbor called police to the scene, deputies said. After officers found the child, they entered the house and used photos inside to confirm that the boy lived there. “Deputies found a phone number for someone they believed was the boy’s dad,” the statement said. “When they called and told him his child was found abandoned, he replied, ‘Whatever,’ and hung up the phone.” When the parents returned home, they admitted that they had left the boy sleeping so they could play “Pokemon Go,” according to police.
