Weekend Roundup: China Is Now the Only Major Power With a Global Outlook

President-elect Donald Trump’s “America First” policy marks an historic withdrawal from the world the United States has largely made. His administration can’t stop globalization, only diminish America’s role in governing it. For better or worse, that leaves China, the world’s second-largest economy, as the only major power with a global outlook. In a YouTube video   this week Trump rejected the Trans-Pacific Partnership that was the core of President Obama’s pivot to Asia. Economist Ed Dolan shows in charts how rejecting trade will not help, but hurt, America. He argues that the lower-skilled, less-educated and older workers who voted most heavily for Trump would almost certainly be among the losers of Trump’s trade plans. Matt Sheehan , The WorldPost’ s former China correspondent, examines how Trump’s war on trade could inadvertently hurt American public higher education, which has come to rely on international students as public funding has dwindled.  Trump also announced an energy policy focusing on boosting fossil fuels, effectively signaling a withdrawal from the globally-agreed Paris accord on climate change.

The Art of Unboxing: Packaging Opportunity In The Age of Earned Content

It’s like the saying goes: You never get a second chance to make a first impression – which is why presentation means everything in retail. Since the early days of product marketing, brands have strove to make packaging pop, sizzle and entice. Utilizing bright colors, catchy slogans and detailed copy marketers understand the power of packaging to grab the attention of consumers and drive sales. Those moments of excitement and anticipation of opening a new product is now being captured and shared on social media. Consumers are increasingly serving as brand ambassadors, generating an average 95 million Instagram posts per day — many of which focus on their favorite purchases.

It’s Probably Best Not To Carve Your Thanksgiving Turkey This Way

Many people agonize over the perfect way to carve the Thanksgiving turkey. Not the guys behind the “ Waterjet Channel ” on YouTube, who simply unleash their powerful waterjet cutter on the cooked bird in a new video. Incredibly, the turkey slices still look edible even after being pummeled by the 60,000 pound-force per square inch jet. How the meat tastes, however, is anyone’s guess.

Instagram Boosts Their Arsenal In War Against Snapchat

Instagram are set to release another new feature this week after recently adding Instagram Stories to their app. The new feature will allow users to send disappearing photos and videos to a recipient, upon they will vanish after being viewed. If this sounds familiar it is because it is the basis of Snapchat. Instagram has been taking aim at the visual sharing app Snapchat for a while, and it appears the latest slew of new features will further drown out the competition.

Learn How To Cook Thanksgiving Dinner With A Drone

If expediency is more important than neatness, drones might be the perfect tool for making Thanksgiving dinner. The key word is “might.” Autel Robotics , a drone maker based in Bothell, Washington, recently posted a video showing what happens when a chef uses a drone to make various holiday side dishes. As the footage above shows, a drone can indeed be used as a cooking tool. But the verdict is still out on whether it should be. Take a look at how it works, dish by dish: The blades on the drone propellers can be used to peel potatoes before boiling them.  via GIPHY They can also peel carrots. via GIPHY Frying the carrots is just a matter of flying them outside to a vat of oil and holding that position for 25 minutes. Easy peasy.

New Bright iRobot Endeavor 710 Kobra Robot Review, Big is Back

Did you ever notice that everything is getting smaller? A pound of coffee is now 12 ounces if you’re lucky. Sure, we all know that is annoying, but sometimes we cheer the shrinking of our stuff. Tiny robots, paper thin laptops and miniature cameras are technical marvels and certainly have their place, but sometimes I miss big stuff. Thankfully, I have just spent a fun filled weekend playing with the New Bright iRobot Endeavor 710 Kobra Robot (sample received for our review, no other compensation was provided).
