Why You Should Become a Master of Single-Tasking if You Want to Get Ahead

I usually wake up to my phone’s alarm clock, scroll through the morning headlines, get ready for work listening to Spotify, read emails on the way to the office, and send a WhatsApp message to my mom. Sometimes I tweet something as I read the news, prepare spreadsheets, compose emails, and dive into Google Analytics. I might send a text to my roommate, watch a YouTube video someone shared with me, forward an interesting article to my team, and check a notification while I’m on Skype with a lead. I’ll bookmark websites to refer to later as I check my Facebook feed, scroll through more headlines from the bathroom, and post something to Instagram.

Dog Poop DNA Tests Are Helping Buildings Crack Down On Residents

If you forget to bring a doodie bag on a walk and don’t pick up your dog’s poop, you may be caught red-handed by DNA. And you might be charged a hefty fine, to boot.  Luxe, a pet-friendly apartment complex in Chicago, is on of many residential buildings in the U.S. taking great measures to prevent irresponsible dog owners from walking away from their pooch’s waste. The building hired a DNA-testing company called PooPrints  to identify the pooper and its perpetrating person, the Chicago Tribune reports.  Luxe’s management company sent a letter to residents calling dog waste ” a real concern for our community ,” with the demand that each resident send in a DNA cheek swab sample from their dogs, according to the Tribune. Now, when dog droppings are found on building grounds, employees send a sample to a lab in Tennessee for identification purposes

Don’t Fall For This Bogus Instagram Ploy

Later this year, Instagram will change in a big way. Rather than showing you a chronological feed of images, it will serve up photos in the order it thinks you’d like to see them . This will happen via an algorithm similar to the one that shapes your Facebook feed . Many accounts are worried that the tweak will make their content less visible, and they’re  begging their followers to enable post notifications .

My Plea to Tech Leaders on Behalf of 400,000 Kids

Recently I met with a leading advocacy organization at my office in Trenton, NJ. We spoke passionately for hours about the foster care system and its flaws. We bounced around ideas on how to make lives better and brighter for the over 400,000 children who are living in it each year. The frustrating thing is that this wasn’t the first time I’ve had this conversation. I’ve had it with my Board of Directors.

Critics Absolutely Love The Oculus Rift

LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) – It’s judgment day for virtual reality: Facebook-owned Oculus started to ship its first Rift VR headsets to consumers this week. And while it may take a few days for consumers to make up their minds about the device, gadget reviewers from major newspapers and tech websites already chimed in on Monday. Microsoft Unveils Next Best Thing To Teleportation

Virtual teleportation is here, and Microsoft is eager to show it off. The tech giant has unveiled something it calls holoportation , which involves using 3D capture technology to beam someone’s image to another location in real time.  Users are surrounded by 3D cameras and then given HoloLens, or specialized headpieces that allow them to see other users in real time, explains Partner Research Manager Shahram Izadi in a  video tutorial the company posted to YouTube last week.  In a four-minute demonstration, Izadi first is visited by an assistant’s 3D image. They interact with each other directly — even move to give each other a high five — although their bodies are in different rooms. Next, a 3D image of Izadi’s daughter appears.
